ECOPower Source is proud to introduce GeoEcoHub™, a central pillar in our mission to create a first-of-its-kind geothermal-powered resilience hub north of Houston, Texas, in Prairie View, Texas.  The Hub will be a model for cities across America.

Resilience hubs provide high-speed internet infrastructure, increased bandwidth, economic development, job creation, workforce development, and cost efficiency, among other benefits.

The Prairie View GeoEcoHub™ will enable disaster recovery and business continuity, supporting the local community and neighboring counties. It will enhance resilience by providing backup, redundant, and disaster recovery solutions.

The Hub will significantly bolster its technological infrastructure, providing economic, social, and technological benefits extending beyond initial improvements to broadband and internet services. This addresses immediate infrastructure challenges and strategically positions the city and neighboring communities for future growth and innovation in a digital economy.

Powering Texas Resilience

We're powering resilience in Prairie View and Hempstead with modern digital infrastructure and energy.

Resilience hubs are spaces designed to secure backup power, reduce energy costs, enable modern technology infrastructure (6G), foster community, and establish emergency preparedness.

GeoEcoHub™ dramatically reduces emissions by leveraging geothermal energy while promoting sustainable power. It is not just about energy—it is about strengthening the social fabric of the community. The GeoEcoHub™  reinforces resilience and unity through innovative energy solutions and community-focused design, making sustainable living a foundation for everyone it serves. Together, we are reimagining how cities can thrive with the power of geothermal advancements.

Integrating geothermal energy into Prairie View, Texas's energy strategy can enhance resilience and sustainability through several key benefits:

  • Stable and Reliable Energy: Geothermal power supply provides a consistent base load, functioning independently of weather conditions, unlike solar or wind. This ensures a steady energy supply and bolsters reliability during extreme weather events.
  • Energy Independence: Local geothermal production reduces reliance on external energy sources, minimizing vulnerabilities to supply disruptions caused by weather or geopolitical influences.
  • Environmental Advantages: Geothermal power generates minimal carbon emissions, contributing to sustainability goals and aligning with broader climate change initiatives. Its small land footprint also makes it ideal for urban areas.
  • Economic Benefits: Developing geothermal energy creates local jobs, stimulates economic growth, and offers a cost-effective energy solution for residents and businesses over time.
  • Grid Stability: Geothermal power supports grid reliability by providing continuous energy and easing demand during peak times. It also complements other energy sources.
  • Emergency Preparedness: A dependable local power source ensures essential services like hospitals and emergency infrastructure remain operational during crises, with potential support for surrounding counties.

Prairie View advances its commitment to renewable energy, economic resilience, and environmental stewardship by adopting geothermal energy while enhancing disaster preparedness and grid reliability.

The frequency and intensity of severe storms in Houston highlight the urgent need for temporary housing in affected regions. The Prairie View GeoEcoHub™ includes plans to build temporary housing over three years to support Gulf Coast residents displaced by hurricanes, floods, or other disasters. These facilities will provide essential shelter for evacuees, helping alleviate pressure on Houston's emergency resources. Prairie View’s location and development could offer safe evacuation destinations, affordable housing, community support systems, and logistics hubs, strengthening regional disaster preparedness and recovery efforts. Economic opportunities and collaboration with surrounding areas will further enhance resilience in the face of future disasters.

Resilience hubs foster vibrant, diverse communities.  There are three core communities involved:

The Sustainable Community

Nonprofit organizations, corporations, universities, small and medium-sized businesses, CBOs and CDFIs, architecture and engineering firms, contractors, technicians, and local, state, and federal governments.

The Social Community

Parents, teachers, students, families,small-business owners, volunteers, organizers, elderly people, municipal and social workers, and neighboring towns.

The Creative Community

Musicians, photographers, and digital creators.

We welcome everyone to be a part of this opportunity!

Resilience hubs come to life in a series of phases.

Community Engagement  (2024-2025)

  • This is a critical step to the development's success. To build plans for the hub, we engage stakeholders, conduct outreach, map assets, define principles, and prioritize sites.

Feasibility and Assessment (Q1 2025)

Developing action steps, conducting site audits with performance specifications, identifying resources, and applying for resilience and microgrid funding are essential.

Funding (Q1 2025) and Implementation (2025-2028)

  • We'll develop grant applications and private funding in collaboration with investors, partners, philanthropic organizations, the US Department of Energy, the Texas Economic Council, Texas universities, and Prairie View A&M.
  • We'll work on the municipal, community, and coalition levels by identifying key infrastructure projects already in the pipeline, reviewing input from listening sessions, and aligning with multiple town plans.
  • We'll identify key partners, entrepreneurs, and service providers, followed by initial convenings and broad community engagement.
  • Lastly, we'll build on the work of the Texas Economic Council and cultivate a dynamic network of local, national, and global partners.
